Emerging Frontiers in Space

 
 

The Emerging Frontiers in Space project is funded by The Japan Foundation Center for Global Partnership (CGP). The project supports basic research and policy outreach by Saadia Pekkanen (Professor and Project Director, University of Washington) in collaboration with John Mittleman (U.S. Naval Research Lab), Setsuko Aoki (Professor, Keio University Law School; Vice Director of the Center for Space Law, Keio University); and Hiroshi Yamakawa (Professor, Kyoto University; President, Japan Aerospace and Exploration Agency – JAXA).  Through a range of activities, the project brings them together with other stakeholders from academia, government, industry, military, the non-profit sector, and the general public to

  • Build foundational knowledge of emerging space frontiers in Japan, Washington State, the United States, and worldwide

  • Raise policy awareness of emerging technology frontiers for entrepreneurship, innovations, and national security

  • Foster networks among stakeholders in Japan, the United States, and beyond
